The King Fahd Medical Research Center (KFMRC) was established in 1980 to serve medical research and postgraduate studies. It was initially housed in a small building attached to the faculty of Medicine. It is the first and largest specialized agency in health research in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia founded in 1981 by royal decree to help solve the problems prevailing health through basic and applied research that contribute to the enrichment of medical knowledge and global health.
