About KFMRC

In its general sense, scientific research is a systematic human behaviour designed to investigate the health of information or hypothesis, as well as to clarify any phenomenon, whether visible or invisible, because of its causes and the mechanisms for dealing with it. The King Fahd Centre for Medical Research is a specialized body in the field of health research in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia established in 1980 by royal decree to contribute to the resolution of prevailing health problems through outstanding basic and applied research that contributes to the enrichment of global medical and health knowledge.

KFMRC includes a distinct scientific environment suitable for a junior and experienced researcher. It consists of an integrated infrastructure of laboratories, offices, conference rooms, classrooms, experimental surgery laboratories, equipped with modern equipment and highly efficient support services. KFMRC is run through a strong and flexible administrative and technical system through a senior management committee and a highly qualified executive cadre with over decades of extensive experience in health research. The total area of the Centre is approximately 11,384 square metres, surrounded by large green spaces and parking lots. It is located in the heart of the city of King Abdullah Medical University and a few metres from the Faculty of Medicine, the University Hospital and the Faculties of Applied Medical Sciences, Pharmacy and Dentistry. The Centre also hosts a number of independent research sectors that integrate and contribute to the achievement of the mission and objectives of the Centre. such as the Center for Medical Genome Research Excellence, the Center for Nano Research Excellence, and a number of scientific chairs, such as the Vertical Chair for Hemorrhagic Diet Virus Research, the Zamel Chair for Cancer Research, the Chair for HIV/AIDS Research and the Chair of Medical Ethics. In addition, the Centre's innovation centres play an important role in achieving the University's mission to the community by contributing to the resolution of prevailing health problems and focus on preventing or reducing the incidence of NCDs such as cancer and diabetes. In order to achieve its mission and objectives, the King Fahd Medical Research Centre has opened its doors to all competent and qualified personnel from all disciplines of the University and other professions.

KFMRC efforts are also focused on the search for new perspectives for the prevention, treatment or prevention of complications of diseases. Its laboratories include a chemistry laboratory, a natural products laboratory, a search for materials that are effective in the local natural environment, and a pre-clinical study laboratory that ensures the integrity and effectiveness of popular, inherited and newly constructed prescriptions. The Laboratory for the Detection of Carcinogens and the Laboratory for the Detection of the Psychological Impact of Drugs and Substances on Embryos during Pregnancy play an important role in protecting society against hazardous substances. To study the human impact of substances and medicines, a highly qualified clinical research unit has been established, in line with global standards and requirements, and is the main gateway to all basic and applied research by members of society.

Recently, a large number of distinguished researchers have been drawn from all over the world, as well as the modernization of public and specialized laboratories, in keeping with the global scientific research movement, and as one of the most prestigious research centres not in Saudi Arabia, but in the Arab world and the Middle East. Thus, the Centre, with its highly qualified human cadres, graduate students, researchers, assistance services, modern equipment, strong support from the surrounding environment, including health colleges and university hospital, and experience in the field for 30 years, is a highly important sector that can play a pivotal role in developing strategies and health plans to reduce the incidence of disease and raise the level of health care provided to citizens and residents of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
