تهتم وحدة المطفرات والمسرطنات بالكشف والتعرف على المطفرات والمسرطنات في الغذاء والدواء باستخدام الكثير من التقنيات الحديثة في مجال الوراثة الجزئية.

تعمل الوحدة على تعزيز فهم الأسس والأليات التي تؤدي إلى نشأة وتطور الأورام وإيجاد طرق لاستهداف الخلايا السرطانية بالإضافة إلى تطوير تقنيات متقدمة وطرق مبتكرة للتشخيص والتنبؤ والوقاية من السرطان كما تهدف الوحدة إلى اجراء أبحاث متخصصة وإشراك الطلبة وتوجيهيهم إلى أبحاث السرطان ودراسة مسبباته.
