Course objectives:
This course aims mainly to the application of all the diagnostic procedures taught in PDS 422 and PDS 522 courses. Diagnosis treatment planning for different types of malocclusion besides actual treatment of simple cases usually treated by the general dentist. Emphasis on diagnosis of difficult cases and the training of dental / medical consultation and referral system.
Each student is required to treat a simple case during the whole year. The students are then required to present their treated cases with Pre & Post treatment records to their fellow colleagues & the orthodontic faculty. This way all the students will review and learn from their classmates’ cases.
1. Students should receive a case that is preapproved by a faculty member in the department to ensure suitability.
2. Once the patient is assigned, it is the students’ responsibility to call the patient and schedule their appointment.
3. After completion of all diagnostic records, the student must present all the analysis to a faculty member in the department, together with a preliminary treatment plan.
4. Treatment must be performed in the presence of an instructor.
5. Evaluation of each student will be done individually. The student will then present their cases in “case presentation seminars” and submit to their instructor the complete case with pre & post records.
6. Students will receive records with different malocclusions to study for diagnosis and treatment planning. The students are encouraged to bring their own records and be approved prior to the diagnostic exercise by a faculty member in the division.
